The Bee Tree

This week, our FIAR book was The Bee Tree by Patricia Polacco. We just happened to have The Gingerbread Man as retold by Jim Aytesworth from the library this week. We were only a few pages into TBT when L pointed out that this story was going to be just like The Gingerbread Man. I asked how so, and he described how the group that was chasing would grow in number with each turn of the page. He was right. In TBT, Mary Ann and her grandfather are joined by an ecclectic group. When the honey is reached, they all help gathering it, and return together for a party of biscuts and honey. This story points out the sweetness and adventure that can be had by READING. Luke is even more excited to be learning to read. When we visit Great Gramp in Napa, we try to make it over to St. Helena. The first time we took the kids to the Hurd Beeswax Candleshop was August 2006. It was great fun to look at the bees behind the glass, and to try to find the queen.

We bought bees wax candles. They smell great. And we bought honey from the local bees and honey sticks. I've brought out the bees wax candles to enjoy this week. And we'll enjoy some honey sticks from our last trip north.

We worked on partners of 10 for math this week. And, since we studied ants last week, we made this chart using ant & bee stickers. And we made these cute bees.

Psalm 19

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart.
