The Salamander Room (2)

These are the cute little Salamanders the boys made this week. L chose black spots, just on the head, like another one he's seen. T chose glitter glue. We has so much fun mixing the orange from red and yellow paint. And these have been fun toys while we continued reading TSR. The pictures are so vivid, and really tell the story. Part of L's assignment this week has been to practice his "story telling" by "reading" the book to T or R...or even me.
A. (from my old core group) took the kids on a Scavanger Hunt around the block when she was here on Friday (that's still too much walking for me). I sent them out with this list that was in the FIAR book. 5 insects...They found a dragonfly, a black bee, and a hornet.

2 butterfly sightings

5 leaves from different trees...They brought these home in a baggie. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos right away and they're not pretty any more. 2 different colored rocks...A big white one, and a small black one. These I added to the rocks Luke's been collecting. 3 flower sightings...

4 bird sightings...They saw a sparrow, a dove, and 2 crows.

1 spider web sighting...Isn't this web great. It's still is wet with the morning dew.

1 bird nest sighting

and 1 ant hill sighting

They did great. They didn't spot a bird nest, but we have one at home that we saved after we watched some birds hatch by Nana's office last spring. And they never found an ant hill. They probably could have found one in our yard though. L's favorite thing from the hunt was finding a dragonfly.
