While reading The Salamander Room, and learning about how much preparation the boy would need for his friend, we were making an environment for our new pet. We've named her Beckie It rhymes with "geckie" as R would call her. Here she is the day we brought her home with just some rocks in the tank. She didn't like the camera.
We built her environment with some live plants thinking it would be pretty. And because the plants needed to be watered, the humidity in the tank was 80%. Beckie didn't like it at all. The Leopard Gecko is from an arid desert. After the first week, we rebuilt her environment to be a closer match with her natural habitat. Even though this was a mistake on our part. Not being informed enough at the start, turned into a great lesson on habitat for the kids. Beckie is much happier with her new surroundings. She's better with the camera...and she's less skiddish around the kids too. Here she is at the end of our 2nd TSR week with the last little bit of skin from shedding.
